Influence of the tip system in the hospitality industry: A pilot study

Reports and discusses the findings of a study conducted in 1989 using a sample from all inclusive and traditionally-run hotels in Jamaica to examine the effect on employee performance of the three major tipping systems in the hospitality industry. Finds the traditionally run hotels experiencing more dysfunctional behaviours than all inclusives. Among the possible reasons for these findings are job dissatisfaction and poorer supervision. Looks at the implications of these findings and possibilities for further research.....
