Abstract
This article reviewed literature on the characteristics of an effective school and effective leadership. It was acknowledged that the educational landscape in developed countries is characteristically different from developing countries. Hence, both groups emphasized different criteria to determine an effective school. At the core of an effective school is effective leadership. This article purports the development of a leadership succession plan in schools to facilitate continuity within the school community. While transformational leadership was associated with positive outcomes in certain schools, an integrated approach to leadership style was explored.....
